Seoul, South Korea--Dr. Jae Hoon Chung, the director of the Seoul Segyero Hospital, has performed a total of 8,133 minimal invasive artificial knee joint surgeries (MIS) from May 1, 2005 to February 19, 2021, thus setting the new world record for the Most Total Knee Replacements (TKR) performed with Minimal Invasive Surgery (MIS), according to the World Record Academy.
Generally, artificial knee joints surgeries are performed by cutting the skin to about 13-15 cm, completely turning over the kneecap, and desquamating much of the surrounding soft tissue. As such, they greatly damage the surrounding tissue and result in severe bleeding and pain after the surgeries. Also, they suffer from the disadvantage of taking a long time to recover.
Dr. Jae Hoon Chung, the director of the Seoul
Segyero Hospital, performs artificial knee joint surgeries using minimal invasive surgery techniques of cutting the knees by 7-9 cm, not turning over the kneecap, and minimizing damages to the surrounding soft tissue.
Through this procedure, the patients' pain and bleeding are alleviated, thus helping them quickly recover from the surgery.
The
Minimal Invasive Surgery (MIS), is very difficult and takes a long time to learn. It also demands patience and precision.
His wish is that Minimal Invasive Surgery (MIS) surgical skills would become widely known and contribute to the advancement of Korea's medical industry, thus enabling more patients to benefit from MIS.
