The ERCP team during the procedure with Dr. Rustia were Dr. Benjamin Daniel S. Valera (Anesthesiologist), Dr. Angelique Elga C. Lo (Gastroenterology Fellow-in-Charge) who assisted Dr. Julius Carlo R. Rustia perform ERCP and the endoscopy nurses and staff: Ms. Abegail A. Pariña , Ms. Ruby Anne D. Calara , Ms. Mary Ann P. Tabor , Ms. Larlin Jeane M. Egmin and Mr. Laurence Mithchell M. Salas .

Dr. Julius Carlo Razo Rustia is an Interventional Gastroenterologist at St. Luke's Medical Center-Global City, Taguig, Philippines.

He finished his Medical Studies at University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines, completed his Gastroenterology Fellowship at Cardinal Santos Medical Center, San Juan, Manila and finally his Interventional Gastroenterology Fellowship at Universiti Malaya Medical Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Published literature in the elderly undergoing ERCP showed the previous oldest documented patient to be 97 years old.

Now, the new record for a patient is 99 years and 107 days old.

Patient sought consult to Dr. Rustia due to obstructive jaundice and epigastric pain. Dr. Rustia used Olympus Videoendoscope TJF-160R then performed ERCP with sphincterotomy and F10 x 12cm plastic stent for 4 bile duct stones ranging in sizes from 0.8 to 0.9cm.

Dr. Rustia says: "It was not just a technically difficult procedure. Before the procedure, I held multiple family conferences with all the relatives and the patient himself to discuss the success and failure rates of ERCP and most importantly possible adverse outcomes and complications. I sincerely thank Mr. Tabaong who was a World War II veteran and his relatives for their trust in me."

Dr. Rustia credits the endoscopy staff of St. Luke's Medical Center-Global City and his ERCP mentor Professor Dato Dr. Goh Khean Lee of University of Malaya Medical Center in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

Prof Goh says, "To be a teacher and mentor to me is a gift, privilege and joy. Mentoring has the greatest reward when you see students and fellows doing well and better than you."

Dr. Rustia is currently the Head of Advanced Endoscopy Unit of the University of Santo Tomas-Legazpi Hospital, Daraga Doctor's Hospital, Tanchuling General Hospital, Sorsogon Medical Mission Group Hospital and is the youngest Interventional Gastroenterologist of St. Luke's Medical Center-Global City.
