At one point during the year Cal was rostered on 18 different teams.
In working towards this world record throughout the year Cal sustained a torn rotator cuff, torn ligaments and tendons in his wrist, avulsion fractures of the thumb and ankle, and fractures of the fibula and ulna.
Cal subsequently had shoulder and wrist surgery in 2020 and is now back to playing 30+ ice hockey games per month.
The world record was sponsored by: 24.7.365 hockey - Dallas, Texas and Ice at The Parks in Arlington, Texas.
Cal Mees: "I started playing ice hockey when I was 6 years old in Bismarck, North Dakota, at age 61, I love playing hockey even more now than when I was a kid.
"I am a member of the Both the Dallas Warriors Disabled Veterans Hockey Team, and the Fort Worth Patriots Hockey Team, which were created to give our US Military Veterans a great way to rehab through the amazing sport of ice hockey.
"My motivation for setting the world record came out of my love for the sport itself. Having played at least 300 games per year for at least 6 years in a row I wanted to do something memorable and push myself to play as many games as I possibly could in one year.
"I had the absolute time of my life achieving this world record. Accomplishing this world record goal would not have been possible without the patience and assistance of Chuck Buker, General Manager at Ice at the Parks in Arlington Texas where I played 255 out of 552 games in 2019.
"The multiple Children’s Health Star Centers were also an integral part of achieving this record as I was able to play at multiple rinks on multiple teams in multiple leagues, with the full support of the rink managers at the Children’s Health Stars Centers.
