"Spanish collector Marià Gabarro did not care for real dogs but won a posthumous place in the Guinness World Records this year for the largest collection of canine-related items - 5,025 figurines, soft toys or dog-head walking sticks," the Reuters reports.



"Gabarro, a sales manager from Terrassa, a town about 30 km (19 miles) from Barcelona, started his mammoth collection of figurines in his 60s.


"Gabarro acquired the figurines at markets and stored them in two houses.
Teresa Gabarro, 54, one of four siblings who now lets her West Highland White Terrier play with the soft toys, said: “(My parents) really liked the non-real dogs, but not the live ones."

"Spanish collector Marià Gabarro earned a Guinness World Record for gathering 5,025 dog figurines, despite not liking real dogs. His unique collection of canine-themed items became a tribute after his passing," the India Times reports.


"Gabarro, who worked as a sales manager, began collecting dog figurines in his 60s. Despite not being fond of actual dogs, he developed a deep interest in collecting miniature representations of them. Over the years, he visited markets, fairs, and antique shops across Spain to find unique pieces for his collection.


"Marià Gabarro passed away last year at the age of 94. Following his death, his family decided to honour his passion by applying for a Guinness World Record. His children counted all the items meticulously, and to their delight, Gabarro's collection was officially recognised as the largest of its kind."

Celebrity dog trainer, Nicholas White, who is the owner of globally recognized dog training business, Off Leash K9 Training, set a record for the longest documented extended down with voice command only. This record was set after only 5 days of working with Belgian Malinois Molly and her owner Paul Burns- setting the new world record for the Longest Down From A Distance with Voice Command.

"The largest collection of dog-related items is 5,025 and was achieved by Rosa, Marià, Nuri, Enric, Miquel and Teresa Gabarró (all Spain) in Terrassa, Barcelona, Spain, on 15 March 2025," the Guinness World Records says.

The Gabarró siblings took on the collection first started by their late parents, Mr. Marià Gabarró Grau and Mrs. Rosa Galobardes Galvez. The collection mainly includes dog figurines made from materials such as ceramic, glass, wood, porcelain, metal, wax, plastic, marble, textile, and resin."

"After Marià Gabarro's passing at 94, his family honored his legacy by applying for a Guinness World Record for his vast dog figurine collection. His daughter, Teresa, shared that while her father didn’t like dogs, he loved figurines."
