World's Largest Cake Walk, world record set in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States--Consumers Credit Union, in partnership with Nothing Bundt Cakes, hosted a sweet success at the Special Olympics Michigan campus, bringing together 659 participants to set the world record for the World's Largest Cake Walk, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"Consumers Credit Union, in partnership with Nothing Bundt Cakes, hosted a sweet success this past weekend at the Special Olympics Michigan campus, bringing together 659 participants to officially break the world record for the largest cake walk ever held. But the real victory came in the form of community impact, with $20,000 donated to benefit Special Olympics Michigan and the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan’s – be nice. program," the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce says.


"Held on the Consumers Credit Union track at the Unified Sports and Inclusion Center, the event was a joyful celebration of inclusion, mental health awareness and community spirit. Attendees of all ages joined in the fun, walking to music in hopes of winning one of 16 grand prizes, while enjoying a carnival-style atmosphere filled with food, games and entertainment.

“This was more than a record-breaking event, it was a record-making moment for our community,” said Lynne Jarman-Johnson, chief marketing officer of Consumers Credit Union. “We’re proud to have hosted such an impactful day at our new track, and even prouder of the generosity and enthusiasm shown by everyone who participated.”

  • Yard games, inflatables, face painting, character meet-and-greets, Wimee, a dance party, wiffle ball and a Touch-a-Truck experience with the Gaines Township Fire Department.

"It was a day of movement and meaningful connection on Grand Rapids’ south side, as more than 650 community members gathered at the Special Olympics Michigan campus over the weekend to set a new world record—and raise awareness for mental health and inclusion along the way," the Grand Rapids Magazine reports.

"It was one for the record books in Moorhead Saturday as 639 people made history by joining in the World’s Largest Cake Walk at Trollwood Performing Arts School," the KFGO reports.

"Five people walked their way to cake for a year from Nothing Bundt Cake in the record-breaking event. All 639 people received a cake for participating.

"A cake walk is a musical chairs-style event that involves participants walking in a large circle lined with numbers while music plays. When the music stops, the participants stop on a number. Then, a random number is called and whoever is lucky enough to be on that number wins."
