MIOVENI, Arges County, Romania--The carved wooden spoon made in 14 days by the popular craftsman Ion Rodos and his son Gheorghe Rodos, (both from Nucsoara commune), is decorated with traditional folk motifs and the logo of the city of Mioveni; the spoon measures 17.79 meters (58 ft 4.39 in) long and 1.50 meters (4 ft 11 in) wide at the widest point, thus setting the world record for the World's Largest Carved Wooden Spoon, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"The huge wooden spoon from Mioveni, holder of a record in the famous Book of Records, measures 17.79 meters long and 1.50 meters at the widest point (the length of the armhole). It was done in 14 days by Ion Rodos and his son, Gheorghe Rodos and it's a true work of art, decorated with traditional folk motifs and the Mioveni logo," the Mioveni City says.


"Ion Rodos is from Nucşoara, Arges county, and is known as "the man who learned the wood to fly". The spoon was made of wood of two lime trees, the first 100 years old, with a diameter of 78 cm, used to make the lump, and the second tree was used for the spoon's tail."

"In order to reduce the risk of wood damage, the spoon was moved to the courtyard of the „Constantin I. Năstase” Ethnographic Museum.


"There, the spoon was mounted on a specially constructed stand for it, with a roof."

"Mioveni is a town in Argeș County, Romania, approximately 15 km (9.3 mi) north-east of Pitești. As of 2021, it had a population of 29,317. The town administers four villages: Clucereasa, Colibași, Făgetu, and Racovița. 


"Mioveni was first mentioned in a written record in 1485. It developed much in the 1970s after the construction of the Automobile Dacia manufacturing plant, inaugurated in 1968. There is also a Nuclear Research Institute, that builds components and materials for the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, and a high security prison.

"Nucșoara is a commune in Argeș County, Muntenia, Romania. It is composed of four villages: Gruiu, Nucșoara, Sboghițești and Slatina. With a surface area of 437.09 km2 (168.76 sq mi), Nucșoara is the largest commune in Romania.[


"The commune is located in the northern part of the county, on the border with Brașov County. It is nestled on the southern slopes of the Făgăraș Mountains, at the foot of Moldoveanu Peak, the highest mountain peak in Romania.
