Louisville, Kentucky, United States--The Kentucky Derby Museum, along with Secretariat Festival and Secretariat.com, officially unveiled the World’s Largest Horseshoe in a special event at the Museum; Measuring 206 centimeters wide and 213.3 centimeters tall, (the equivalent to 6 feet, 9.1 inches wide and 6 feet, 11.8 inches tall) the 610-pound horseshoe is an exact replica of one worn by 1973 Triple Crown Champion Secretariat (owner Penny Chenery and exercise rider Charlie Davis) and sets the world record for being the World's Largest Horseshoe Replica, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"Measuring 206 centimeters wide and 213.3 centimeters tall, (the equivalent to 6 feet, 9.1 inches wide and 6 feet, 11.8 inches tall) the 610-pound horseshoe is an exact replica of one worn by 1973 Triple Crown Champion Secretariat. Secretariat owner Penny Chenery and exercise rider Charlie Davis both played roles in the unveiling, part of several appearances during the weekend-long Secretariat Festival," the official website says.


"Louisville-based Eagle Sign & Design Inc. cast the giant replica using aircraft aluminum contributed by original Secretariat racing plate manufacturer Thoro’bred Inc., which provided shoes for the Meadow Stable colt during his racing career. The permanent home of the World’s Largest Horseshoe will be at the Museum, but it will be the feature of a broader exhibit that is expected to travel around the nation during the summer of 2016.

"Triple Crown winners jockey Jean Cruguet and trainer Billy Turner, two-time Kentucky Derby winning jockey Jacinto Vasquez, Derby winning jockey Bobby Ussery and Churchill Downs all-time leading rider Pat Day were also in attendance for the unveiling."

"The shoe, which was commissioned by the museum, Secretariat Festival and Secretariat.com, is a replica of one manufactured by Thoro’bred Inc. and worn by the 1973 Triple Crown winner Secretariat," the American Farriers Journal says.


"It is cast in aircraft aluminum and stands 6-feet-11.8 inches tall and 6-feet-9.1 inches wide and weighs 610 pounds. Louisville-based Eagle Sign & Design Inc. partnered with Thoro’bred to make the replica horseshoe. Guinness World Records previously confirmed the shoe’s world-record status earlier in the week.


"The previous world’s largest horseshoe measures 5 feet and 1.42 inches in height and 5 feet, 8 inches in width. It was created by the Martinsville Agricultural Fair in Illinois and confirmed on June 21, 2013, according to Guinness World Records."

"Expected to weigh nearly a half ton, the shoe, a replica of the one worn by the 1973 Triple Crown winner, was cast by Louisville-based Eagle Sign & Design Inc. and Thoro'bred Inc., which made Secretariat's originals. It will be unveiled at 1 p.m. Sept. 20," the Courier Journal says.


"For years, we have discussed introducing a special piece into our museum collection and to have this unique shoe representing Secretariat is fantastic," said Derby Museum President Patrick Armstrong. "A horseshoe of this magnitude is iconic to our mission and has the potential to be a signature exhibit."


"The current world's largest horsehoe measures 5 feet and 1.42 inches in height and 5 feet, 8 inches in width."
