Bardstown, Kentucky, United States--A giant crucifix was crafted by local welder, Herbert Cleveland, and placed outside St. Thomas Cemetery in 1986; the stainless steel, abstract, sculpture stands 60-ft. tall, setting the new world record for being the World's Largest Crucifix, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
"This crucifix is the largest in the world. The design is more abstract than your usual crucifix, and it resembles a ship's mast to some extent," the Road trippers says.
"This crucified Christ overlooks a cemetery in quaint Bardstown, KY, and it has withstood winds and storms of all kinds to remain standing."
"Until 1986, the Cross in the Woods was the largest crucifix in the world. That year it was surpassed when a simpler crucifix was erected in a Bardstown, Kentucky cemetery," the MLive.com says.
"While the Cross in the Woods stands at 55 feet, the Bardstown crucifix bests it at 60 feet."
