"George and Elizabeth James ran their pecan farm on the outskirts of Brunswick, Missouri, for nearly 60 years. In 1982 they built a concrete replica of their patented Starking Hardy Giant pecan, a tasty strain discovered by George on the property in 1947. Today, the area is thick with pecan farms -- the Brunswick Pecan Festival is held every October," the Roadside America says.

"The pecan sat in front of what was once the Nut Hut roadside stand, the James home, and a couple of outbuildings. It weighs 12,000 pounds and is 7x12 feet. The old postcard view was great -- a wide angle, rendering the pecan bus-sized.

"Flood damage, coupled with fading health [George died in 1998], took a toll on the big pecan. We visited early one summer evening; the Nut Hut was closed, but the pecan and its sign caught the bright rays of the setting sun."

"Our nuts are sourced from national ingredient manufacturers, exported internationally, and sold in local retail shops.

"The World’s Largest Pecan is a tribute to a specific patent acquired by the James Pecan Farm in Brunswick, Missouri, the Pecan Capital of Missouri. The closest construction date the lady working the Nut Hut and I could come up with was 1982, but the wife of the builder thought it was a little earlier. The Nut Hut, which serves as both a gift shop as well as a museum devoted to the World’s Largest Pecan, the history of James Pecan Farm, and Pecans in general, adjoins the shelling factory, with the World’s Largest Pecan out by the highway," the World's Largest Things says.

"The widow of Mr. James will tell you stories about pecans and pecan farming, but don’t try to crawl on the pecan, as she gets pretty irate (different trip). Posted here is the little sheet they give out giving the Official Facts , as well as some pecan-related recipes. If you’re in the area, stop by and help support a local industry and World’s Largest Thing.

"So,not only is it an emblem of a specific geographic region’s industry, it’s an ad for a specific establishment. Brunswick holds an annual Pecan Festival every year, first weekend in October. Nearby, in the same county, you’ll find Maxie, the World’s Largest Goose, over in Sumner."

It’s nuts! (The town is so famous for their pecans, they even host the Brunswick Missouri Pecan Festival.)," the Silly America says.

"The World’s Largest Pecan (also known as The World’s Largest 20th Century Pecan) was constructed in as 1982 (or possibly earlier) by George and Elizabeth James on the James Pecan Farm, a farm that they tended to for nearly 60 years. This large roadside attraction was meant to be a replica of the farm’s signature Starking Hardy Giant pecan.

"Their hardy pecan is a large thin-shell variety discovered by George James in 1955. This giant pecan is 7 feet in diameter by 12 feet long, weighs in at around 12,000 pounds, and is made entirely out of concrete."

"One of the world's largest pecan renditions, which at one time adorned a nut stand just outside of town. This pecan will drive some people nuts, but we enjoyed seeing it and the quaint town of Brunswick. If traveling through this town, stop, stretch and go nuts."

"Brunswick claims to be the Pecan Capital of the World...don't know about the veracity of the claim, but there are lots of orchards. While the pecans from the area are smaller than store-bought, this IS a big nut and easily seen in the small town."

"Stopped by on trip to area. Would not go out of our way for this. It is what it says it is. This was moved right next to city hall, this largest type of nut. Maybe this is a political statement :-)"

"Missouri is known for a variety of produce, especially for apples, wine grapes and wineries, peaches, and pecans. This attraction is part of Brunswick's local history and was built on a pecan farm years ago. Brunswick has several pecan farms and orchards, and the rich river bottom land is terrific for growing conditions. And if you're into unusual attractions and fun tourist stops along the way, stop here and get your picture taken in front of the pecan."

"This pecan is part of the local history. It sat in front of a pecan shop for many years, when the shop was torn down it was moved to town. Fun place to visit."
