"The peanuts were delivered to Luverne from Holland Farms in Milton, Florida. The first batch hit the water around 5:30 Wednesday morning, and the peanuts were bagged up and ready to sell by 10 a.m," the Lowndes Signal says.

"The peanuts were boiled in five 10-foot-long boilers heated by propane. Each tank holds about 720 pounds of peanuts and 250 gallons of water. Two tons of salt were used throughout the peanut boil.  Each year, the Shriners dedicate the peanut boil in honor of a deceased Alcazar Shrine Club member or member’s wife. This year’s event was in memory of Noble Ed Patterson and Past Potentate Al Smith.

"“For a years and years, the ‘World’s Largest Peanut Boil” attracted a lot tourists that were going to the beach for Labor Day,” Compton said. “We still have a good bit of beach traffic, like one lady from Atlanta. She had planned her trip to the beach so she could come to the peanut boil. But most of those who come are homefolks, people from South Alabama where we love boiled peanuts,” The Messenger says.

"“Boiling peanuts in pots took a lot of time and long, hard, hot work,” Compton said. “The pots had to be watched and stirred almost constantly and we could only boil about 720 pounds at time. With the five vats that we have now, we can boil 3,600 pounds at a time. So, we can get more peanuts boiled and out to the customers in less time. That’s good for us and for our customers.”

"Compton said boiled peanut lovers come with the expectations of having to wait and are courteous and understanding. The World’s Best Boiled Peanuts are worth the wait. If they weren’t Compton said the Crenshaw County Shriners would no longer hold the title of “The World’s Best Boiled Peanuts.”

"For more than 50 years, Labor Day weekend in Crenshaw County has meant it’s time for the “World’s Largest Peanut Boil.”

"The Crenshaw County Alcazar Shrine Club has held this event each year since 1970 as a fundraiser for its local projects as well as those at the national level. This year (2022), club members are boiling about 34 tons of peanuts. The boiling actually started on Wednesday and will last until the peanuts run out," the WAKA 8 TV reports.

"In years past, the peanuts were gone by the Saturday night or Sunday morning of Labor Day weekend. That’s because folks come from all across this part of the state to get some of the freshest and hottest boiled peanuts around."

"A sign leading into Luverne proudly proclaims it as “The Friendliest City in the South” and “Home of the World’s Largest Peanut Boil.” Both assertions appear true based on the turnout for the 50th anniversary of the Crenshaw County Shrine Club’s Labor Day peanut boil," the Alfa Farmers says.

"Peanuts are cooked in five 10-foot long metal tanks heated by propane burners. Each hold 720 pounds of peanuts, 250 gallons of water and a generous serving of salt. The group will use 2 tons of salt over the weekend. A wench system lowers and lifts cages filled with peanuts into the hot water. Four hours later, peanuts are spread onto a drying table in front of giant fans where they’re cooled slightly before being bagged and sold to waiting customers.

"The Shrine Club contracts with Jay, Florida, farmer Bruce Holland to grow the peanuts they sell. They’re picked and washed before being bagged in 40-pound sacks and stacked in a refrigerated truck that hauls them to Luverne. Proceeds from the event help fund Shriner charities like Shriners Hospitals for Children."
