"A New York artist is reflecting on his work after finishing the world's largest knitted American flag. The flag, which is 25 feet wide and 15 feet tall, is on display at The Momentary in Bentonville, Arkansas," the KHBS reports.

"Artist Dave Cole said it took him about a week to knit the flag, which has more than 455 stitches. He said his hands did get tired at times, but he was proud of the finished product.

"Cole said he was impressed with the art scene in Northwest Arkansas and enjoyed his trip to the state. He said the people he met were "incredibly generous and incredibly hospitable."

"To commemorate July 4, multidisciplinary artist Dave Cole will make the world’s largest knitted American flag at the Momentary. Using telephone poles as knitting needles and two large excavators as arms, Cole will orchestrate each purl and knit of the flag from a boom lift above," The Momentary says.

"The grandiose spectacle will begin on July 1, with a theatrical last knit one, purl two happening during a special celebration on July 4. The Kitting Machine, and completed flag, will remain on display in the North Courtyard on the Momentary’s campus through July 16 – proudly waiving in the background of the Brothers Osborne concert on July 15.

"Artist Dave Cole creates art that is richly layered but also easily accessible, with plenty of room for wit and irreverence. He explores the complexities and contradictions of American identity, including its deeply rooted patriotism and strong work ethic, by employing symbols that impart fresh meaning to a wide range of objects and ideas by repurposing familiar tools and objects that create delightful and unexpected juxtapositions."

": Two excavators articulate telephone poles to complete a straight stitch with acrylic felt. Cole stands on a skyjack nearby to provide a little help. It will take about 500 stitches to complete, Cole told Axios.

"What he's saying: "I've always believed that art can be for everybody — that it doesn't need to be exclusive or obtuse in order to be sophisticated or worthwhile,”Cole told Axios. “That it can be accessible and it can be fun and it can be whimsical and can still be ambitious and conceptually rich."
