"In front of the Danbury Railway Museum you’ll find the world’s tallest Uncle Sam. At 38-feet tall, this giant man is decked out in red, white, and blue: from the bottom of his red and white striped pants, to his star-spangled blue blazer, to the top of his extra-tall top hat," the Silly America reports.

"Originally built in the 1960s for an Ohio chain restaurant called Uncle Sam’s, he moved to Danbury in 1971, then away to New York, then came back home in 2019."

"The World’s Tallest Uncle Sam stands 38′ feet tall. His splendid fiberglass form occupies it’s own corner of the parking lot at the Danbury Railway Museum," the fuzzygalore.com reports.

"He is the tallest Uncle Sam statue in the world and returns to Danbury standing as proud as he did at the fair from 1971-1981. His iconic fiberglass figure stands 38 feet tall. Thanks to Mayor Mark Boughton, dedicated city staff and area residents and business, Uncle Sam returns from decades in Lake George back to his forever home in Danbury

"It can be easy to dismiss these types of statues as silly or frivolous. But as the plaque that is now posted in Danbury can attest, they become part of the lexicon of the places we call home. Their relevance or importance to the fabric of our memory may not be realized until the circumstances of life change."

"Newly restored and returned to Danbury after many years in upstate New York. Now located at the Danbury Railway Museum. He originally stood at the Danbury Fair from 1969 to 1981. 35 feet tall. Almost complete but not quite; the city still needs to install Uncle Sam's cane," the Roadside America reports.

"In the parking lot of the Danbury Railway Museum stands a huge rendition of Uncle Sam. Sam is patriotic from top of exaggerated hat to toe, in American flag red-white-blue stars and stripes. At 38 feet tall, Uncle Sam is claimed to be the World's Tallest.

"When the statue was officially dedicated on July 25, Danbury's mayor acknowledged that there was an identical Uncle Sam statue elsewhere, but since that statue was up on a platform, the mayor said, Danbury's was better because it was the World's Tallest Uncle Sam standing on the ground."

"At 38 feet tall, this is one of the tallest Uncle Sam statues in the world. There is one that is reported to be a few feet taller, but that one's up on a pedestal," the Only In Your State reports.

"The Uncle Sam statue in Connecticut is placed directly on the ground, so we feel like it's a fair argument to say he's the tallest whose feet are on the ground.

"This massive statue of Uncle Sam left the state for many years, but returned in 2019. He now proudly stands over the Danbury Railway Museum, greeting visitors and locals alike in his star-spangled suit."

"The first thing you’ll probably notice when visiting our museum is the 38-foot-tall Uncle Sam keeping watch over our parking lot. ‘Meet me at Uncle Sam’ was a common phrase spoken by patrons of the Great Danbury State Fair during fair week. Part of Danbury’s history revolves around the yearly agricultural event that ran for 112 years," the Danbury Railway Museum says.

"From 1971 to the fair’s closing in 1981, Uncle Sam stood on the fairgrounds welcoming all. After the fair closed, he was purchased by the Fairy Tale Magic Forest Theme Park in Lake George, New York, where he resided for 37 years. In late 2018, the park closed, and Uncle Sam was slated to be sold to Troy, New York. Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton stepped in, outbid Troy, and had the 4,500 pound fiberglass statue trucked back home. His restoration was funded by corporate partners and service organizations.

"‘Sam’ was originally set to stand near Interstate 84, but those plans were scrapped, and we were chosen to be his new permanent home. Construction in our parking lot began in spring, and he was dedicated on July 25, 2019. He is The World’s Tallest Uncle Sam, and more importantly a part of Danbury’s story."

"By some accounts, the inspiration for Uncle Sam was Samuel Wilson, a Troy meat supplier who shipped goods to U.S. troops during the War of 1812. This is disputed, as the song “Yankee Doodle,” written several decades before 1812, references an Uncle Sam. (“Yankee Doodle” was designated Connecticut’s official state song in 1978.)," the CT Insider reports.

"The Uncle Sam statue stood outside an entrance to the Danbury Fair, the city’s huge annual agricultural event, from the late 1960s or early 1970s — no one is sure exactly when the statue went up — until the fair’s final season in 1981. When the fair closed, the statue was bought by Jack Gillette, owner of the Magic Forest amusement park in Lake George, New York. It had been a striking feature of the amusement park for the past 36 years, but when the park changed hands over the winter, Danbury’s mayor, Mark Boughton, arranged to have the statue purchased for $50,000.

"“It’s delightful to have it back in Danbury and I think all Danbury people that are old-timers remember that, and it’s a fond reminder of the fair,” Stetson says.

"The Danbury Fair (also known as The Great Danbury State Fair) was a yearly exhibition in Danbury, Connecticut. It was begun in 1821 as an agricultural fair, but did not have a regular schedule until 1869 when hat manufacturers Rundle and White helped form the Danbury Farmers and Manufacturers Society. From then until its closing, the fair was open for ten days every October. When the fair's owner John Leahy died in 1974, the organization fell into disarray. The last day of the fair was October 12, 1981, with an estimated 400,000 people having attended that year. All of the rides, attractions, and holdings were auctioned off. The Danbury Fair Mall was built on the fairgrounds by the Wilmorite Corporation. Photos of the fair and original signs used to be found in the mall's food court.

"The fair featured large fiberglass sculptures of characters such as Uncle Sam and Paul Bunyan. Many of these were purchased after the fair was closed, and continue to exist (Photo of Uncle Sam at Magic Forest in Lake George, New York). The sculpture of Uncle Sam is 38 feet tall and is claimed to be the tallest Uncle Sam in the world.

"The Uncle Sam statue was recently returned to its home in Danbury Connecticut in 2019 and is located at the Railway Museum. The sculpture of Paul Bunyan was manufactured by International Fiberglass, which mass-produced identical sculptures to sell to stores such as tire or muffler shops (thus the sculptures are generally referred to as Muffler Men). The Danbury Fair Paul Bunyan was eventually painted like a "hippy" and moved to Max Yasgur's Farm in Bethel, New York (home of annual Woodstock reunions). It has since returned to Danbury."
