Mesopotamia, Ohio, United States--Across from the End of the Commons General Store, which has been in continuous operation since the 1840s, on the east side of the Commons sits a giant wooden horse and buggy, made up of 2,300 board feet of lumber and 30 pounds of screws, designed by Chris McConnell, which sets the world record for being the World’s Largest Amish Horse and Buggy Monument, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"This 32-foot long horse and carriage was designed by Chris McConnell. The fully proportional giant wooden horse and buggy is made up of 2,300 board feet of lumber and 30 pounds of screws," the Silly America reports.


"The wheel size is 7 feet tall and the horse stands at 29.25 hands tall! Mesopotamia is the fourth largest Amish community in the United States, so the creation is definitely a case of art imitates life. It’s the perfect icon to draw in visitors. In fact, if you drive up to find the World’s Largest Amish Horse and Buggy you’ll probably pass a few normal-sized real-life horse and buggies on your way.


"According to a sign attached to this Ohio tourist attraction, the fully proportional giant wooden horse and buggy is made up of 2,300 board feet of lumber and 30 pounds of screws. The wheel size is 7 feet tall and the horse stands at 29.25 hands tall! Actually, I’m not really sure what a “hand” measurement is, or whose hands they use, or if the Amish have different sized hands then the rest of us, or if maybe they used horse hands, but it was a mighty tall horse!"

"The world's largest horse and buggy stands at the corner of a small park in Mesopotamia, Ohio. The wooden horse and buggy are perfectly proportional to an actual horse and buggy, and uses 2300 board feet of lumber, the Ohio Outdoor Sculpture says.


"But, this Trojan horse poses no threat to the residents of Mesopotamia. The horse and buggy were both conceived and constructed by artist Chris McConnell: a Cleveland Institute of Art sculpture student with numerous other monumental works of animals around Ohio."

"Folk Art Amish: a large piece horse and buggy sculpture made of wooden 2x4s. You may encounter a couple of normal-size versions running errands around Mesopotamia," the Roadside America reports.


"A giant horse stand 13.5 feet tall pulling a buggy that is 14 feet tall. This entire statue is 32 feet long. It is in proportion to a real Amish buggy that you see driven on the roads in this Amish country. There was a recent contest to name the stallion and it is now called "Sir Pierpont of Mesopotamia," named after the founder of the town, Pierpont Edwards.


"A giant wooden Amish horse and buggy is made completely from 2x4s. The horse stands at 13.5 feet tall from hoof to ear, and it stretches 12 feet in length. The Amish buggy is 18 feet tall and 12 feet long. Each tire is over 7 feet tall. The horse looks as if it is in motion and the buggy trails behind. The entire statue is 35 feet long."

"Measuring 14 feet tall, a wooden horse and buggy sculpture made of planks of scrap wood from area mills stands tall on a grassy patch across the street from the general store, poised as if it were ready to trot down the road;" the Ohio Magazine says.


"Since its installation in 2008, the horse and buggy has served as a meeting place, a landmark and a photo opportunity, but it’s also added to the allure of Schaden’s already popular general store, an 1840s structure that stocks glass-bottled sodas, bulk candy and plenty of other memory joggers."

"Located in the heart of Amish Country, this family-owned general store serves the local Amish community as well as provides visitors with a glimpse into the past," the Ohio.org reports.


"One of the oldest general stores in Ohio, it has been in continuous operation since 1840. Those looking for a bite to eat will enjoy the ambiance of the Commons Café located inside the store. Just steps away from the store entrance is a 15’ woodcarving featuring a frontiersman reminiscent of early settlers living in the area that was carved from a 350-year-old oak tree stump.


"And across from the store and adjacent to the Commons sits the world’s largest Amish horse and buggy which stands 14” high and 32’ long."

"The center of Mesopotamia, better known as the "Commons", is surrounded by 28 buildings, 21 of them built before the Civil War and included on the National Register of Historic Places," the Roadtrippers says.


"The End of the Commons General Store, which has been in continuous operation since the 1840s, sits at the south end of the town's center. Today this area is part of the fourth largest Amish settlement in the country and the second largest in Ohio.


"Across from the General Store on the east side of the Commons sits the worlds's largest Amish horse and buggy which stands 14' high and 32' long."
