World's First Teal McDonald's Arches: world record in Sedona, Arizona

Sedona, Arizona, United States--The Golden Arches are the symbol of McDonald's, the global fast food restaurant chain; the McDonald's arches in Sedona, Arizona were made turquoise when the yellow color had been deemed by government officials to be contrasting too much against the scenic red rock; they set the world record for being the World's First Teal McDonald's Arches, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"In 1993, the city of Sedona allowed McDonald’s to open in their town under one condition: They change the color of their logo. In order to preserve the natural beauty of the red rocks in the area and keep the overall aesthetic of the town (because that’s something people thought about in the ’90s), local officials required that McDonald’s change their famous yellow logo to teal," the Atlas Obscura reports.

"Sedona representatives were concerned the giant golden M would clash with the tones of the surrounding landscape.

"The teal arches, along with teal welcome signs, still stand there today. They’re the only teal McDonald’s arches in the world."

"Sedona is rather trippy. To preserve the city's Kachina purity, McDonald's was begrudgingly allowed to build ONLY if they agreed to modify the world's most recognizable brand by changing their famous golden arches to Desert Teal," the Roadside America reports.

"The only McDonald's in the world with turquoise green arches.

"Stopped at the jade arches for some fries for the road dog. Sedona got it right asking McDonald's to conform to the rules making it the most visually non offensive fast food joint in the southwest."

"The golden arches of McDonald's are one of the world's most identifiable symbols. The only place in the world where you will find the fast food giant's recognizable arches painted the color blue? Sedona, Arizona!" the ABC15 Arizona reports.

"Some say the McDonald's ownership was happy to comply and opted for the turquoise M as an alternative color. Social media has given this restaurant a new wave of popularity, with people traveling to this destination from all over the world just to post pictures of the bright blue M.

"It's definitely unique," shares Meyer. "When I first moved here, it's what people brought up. Oh, you are moving to Sedona? They have turquoise arches! [When you pass by] you see people taking pictures with it a lot."

"The Golden Arches are the symbol of McDonald's, the global fast food restaurant chain. Originally, real arches were part of the restaurant design. They were incorporated into the chain's logo in 1962, which resembled a stylized restaurant, and in the current Golden Arches logo, introduced 1968, resembling an "M" for "McDonald's". They are widely regarded to be one of the most recognizable logos in the world.

"While McDonald's dropped the physical arches from nearly all of its restaurants in the 1960s, the Golden Arches have remained in the logo, and as a commonly understood term for the company.

"All restaurants operated by McDonald's Canada use a variation of the Golden Arches, which features a maple leaf inserted into the centre of the Golden Arches; subsuming a Canadian national symbol into its corporate symbol. The McDonald's arches in Sedona, Arizona were made turquoise when the yellow color had been deemed by government officials to be contrasting too much against the scenic red rock." (Wikipedia)

"The bright yellow letter M for McDonald’s has to be one of the most recognizable logos in the entire world. It adorns McDonald’s restaurants across the globe, to the point where “The Golden Arches” has become all but synonymous with McDonald’s itselfm" the Reader's Digest reports.

"However, there’s one McDonald’s that forgoes that famous yellow color in its logo in favor of a light bluish-green. In Sedona, Arizona, the only arches you’ll see are turquoise!"

"Whatever the reason, though, the color-change certainly makes this McDonald’s stand out. In fact, these unique not-so-golden arches have become an essential tourist destination for Sedona travelers."

"At last count, there were more than 36,000 McDonald's restaurants in the world. But the McDonald's in Sedona is one of a kind.

"There's perhaps no more recognizable brand than the McDonald's "Golden Arches." At the Sedona McDonald's, those arches are turquoise (or teal green, or jade, depending on whom you ask)," the Arizona Highway reports.

"And while this deviation from the norm has spurred all sorts of theories about building codes and city ordinances, the truth is a little less exciting, according to a news report from a few years back"

"When driving by this Sedona McDonald’s, you might do a double take when you see the restaurant’s famous arches. Instead of the typical golden hue, this location sports turquoise arches," the Arizona Oddities reports..

"Sedona has strict rules for buildings to ensure that they don’t interfere too much with the beautiful surrounding landscape. When this McDonald’s was constructed in 1993, officials felt the usual gold would clash too much with Sedona’s red rocks.

"While thousands of tourists flock to Sedona each year to experience the city’s spiritual vortexes and breathtaking scenery, this McDonald’s has become a tourist attraction all its own. Other than the off-color signage, you’ll find that this McDonald’s offers the same fast-food menu as any other."

"We live in Sedona and occasionally must have a Sausage Egg McMuffin. Our McDonald's is clean, efficient and the only one I know of with turquoise, instead of golden arches!"

"Home of the only McDonalds with a tourquoise arch to keep with the red rock/indian theme of Sedona. You might pass it the first time as it doesn't have the typical arches out on the boulevard."

"It's a typical McDonalds inside except for the teal arches outside."

"The restaurant is very neat and clean. The Sedona zoning people forced McDonald's to use teal for their arches, the only one in the world."

"....if you're hungry, this is the place to grab some food and a picture with the only turquoise arches in the world."

"Perfectly colored to fit right into the Sedona backdrop. Same great food as the other McDs. Take a pic with the Blue Arches. Only ones in the world!!!"
