"The LineUp at Wai Kai is everything you love about Hawaii in an experience that’s anything but typical. The LineUp is a meeting place for locals, aspiring surfers, pro surfers, and travellers alike," the official website says.

"Located on the shores of West Oahu, Wai Kai is an active year-round destination where residents and visitors connect to the water, land, and culture of Hawaii by experiencing first-of-its-kind attractions, signature events, and the natural beauty of the Pacific Ocean.

"The nine-acre waterfront recreation and lifestyle venue includes the world’s largest deep-water standing surf wave, the adjacent Wai Kai Lagoon for water sports, three incredible restaurants, premium lifestyle retail, and a multitude of event venues including a sprawling event lawn with a waterfront fire pit."

"Oahu’s west side offers the best of both worlds — Honolulu and its glorious restaurants and museums are a short half-hour drive away, while the stretch of island along the leeward side has mellow beaches and a laid-back, local vibe. Wai Kai, part of Hoakalei Resort in Ewa Beach, will invite surfers, wannabe surfers, and the surfing obsessed to connect with the now-global sport that was born on the island," the Forbes says.

"This exciting development is the first of its kind in Hawai’i, where modern surfing caught a wave in the cultural zeitgeist, and it will have the world’s largest deep-water standing surf wave. Powered by citywave®, this technology creates realistic surfing conditions with infinite and adjustable waves, ranging from two to six feet to accommodate a range of skill levels.

'The 100-foot-wide controlled wave will allow up to three surfers at a time, and an additional 30 in the “barefoot zone,” and is designed to emulate natural standing river waves like the North Shore’s famous Waimea River Sand Bar. The Wai Kai Wave was created in collaboration with local surfer Shane Beschen, an X Games gold medalist and former world number two surfer. He and other former and current professional surfers will be available for hands-on instruction and training sessions."

"Oahu, the Hawaiian island known for having some of the best surfing in the world, has a new site on its shoreline — a freshwater pool dubbed the "world's largest deep-water standing surf wave." But the wave pool, filled with water from the fragile aquifer, opened amid an ongoing water crisis, riling up many who say the tourist attraction arrives as locals are suffering," the CBS NEWS reports.

"Wai Kai Commerical Development announced the pool in January 2021 as part of a $40 million recreation hub called The LineUp at WaiKai. The group said it's the "world's largest deep-water standing surf wave" called Wai Kai Wave – measuring 100 feet wide – and that hub also features a 52-acre recreational lagoon that will each be "first-of-its-kind attractions."

"The Ewa Beach wave pool holds 1.7 million gallons of fresh water – the amount equivalent to about 2.5 Olympic-sized swimming pools. And the water for it was taken from the aquifer, a resource that's become increasingly fragile on the island as recent and wide-scale water contamination events and environmental issues have strained locals' ability to access fresh water for their basic day-to-day needs."

"World’s largest deep-water standing surf wave pool, known as the Wai Kai Wave, is now ready and open for visitors. It recently opened in Hawaii, on an island named Oahu, which is also famed for having some of the world’s best surfing sites," The Times of India says.

First announced in January 2021, the deep-water standing surf wave pool is part of a recreational project by Wai Kai, named The LineUp. The said project involved 52 acres of the recreational lagoon and money invested in it was roughly around $112 million.

"If reports are to go by, the world’s largest pool is around 100 ft wide with a water capacity of 1.7 million gallons, which amounts to 2.5 times the quantity of water that is used in a swimming pool during the Olympics. Further reports suggest that the pool will be filled with fresh water as using seawater or recycled water in the pool was not a feasible option."

"Standing wave pools work via a series of high-power water pumps that send fast torrents of water through jets, chutes or ramps that lead to the main pool. The fast-flowing water meets a submerged structure or reef and creates a surf-able wave that can be varied in size and shape by simple adjustments of the water speed and the wave-forming ramp (plus a few other factors)," the Wave Pool Magazine says.

"The important takeaway is that the resulting waves are “deepwater” waves, meaning regular surf equipment with full-size fins will work here. Sheet waves, like the original FlowRider, require specialized boards resembling finless skateboard decks. Deepwater standing waves allow you to use your favorite stick, so the surf-sensation is similar to surfing on a moving wave.

“Standing waves are obviously different than paddle-in waves because the water is coming at you,” added Shane. “But with Citywave (and other tech) being a deep-water standing wave, it allows for real surfboards and fins which allows you to get a similar feeling when doing big carves."

"The LineUp at Wai Kai, a dynamic social and recreational hub of authentic waterman experiences, is headlined by the Wai Kai Wave, the world’s largest deep-water standing surf wave at 100-feet wide. Powered by Citywave®, the technology creates authentic surfing conditions with perfect endless and adjustable waves from 2-feet to head-high for all skill levels allowing the use of standard surfboards with fins for big carving turns and top-to-bottom surfing on its glassy wave face," the Surf Park Central says.

"The Wai Kai Wave was created in collaboration with Oahu’s-own Shane Beschen (a partner in The LineUp at Wai Kai’s operating company), an X Games Gold Medalist, former world #2 ranked surfer, and Red Bull’s high-performance surf coach, and his young gun surfing son Noah.

"The LineUp, including the Wai Kai Wave, will be managed by Surf Park Management. “Our team is excited to launch the most progressive facility in all of Hawaii for anyone who loves an active ocean lifestyle,” said Surf Park Management’s Skip Taylor. “To give the local community here an amazing place to play and socialize as well as introduce active travelers to the waterman’s lifestyle is a super exciting opportunity.”
