"Just in time for Record Store Day 2022, a company billing itself as the world’s largest vinyl record manufacturer is investing $13.3 million on a Nashville production plant. The new headquarters of Nashville Record Pressing will house manufacturing, distribution, and administrative functions, creating an expected 255 jobs over five years. The move comes as new industry data show vinyl record sales continue at a healthy pace," the Plastics Today says.

"“We’re launching Nashville Record Pressing as a direct answer to customer requests to make more vinyl and locate that new production in Nashville,” said Drake Coker, CEO of Nashville Record Pressing, in a press release issued by Tennessee’s Department of Economic and Community Development. “We’re committed to becoming a source of pride for the community. We’re here to be Nashville’s favorite vinyl pressing plant.”

"Vinyl records have been growing steadily in collectability over the past few years. From multicolored and patterned platters to records that are filled with sand, liquid, or candy — or even made with bioplastics — long-playing records (LPs) have been embraced by a new generation of music lovers. Dozens of independent labels offer artists’ new works in collectible editions of records made in limited batches of 500 or less."

"We are ecstatic to announce Nashville Record Pressing (NRP), a GZ Media Company, is officially setting up shop in Nashville. Our pilot operations have begun with full record pressing set to begin in May. Production will ramp up, hitting a maximum capacity exceeding 20 million records per year by the Fall of 2023. At full capacity, we plan to employ over 250 people. We believe that our choice to lay roots in Nashville will be good for music, good for the music business, and good for Music City," the official website says..

"As demand for vinyl records continues to grow, the need for pressing capacity has grown as well. Our customers have asked us to produce more and more vinyl for them, and specifically to locate that production in Nashville. The decision to launch NRP was simple; the city’s status as both music hub and distribution hub, in addition to bringing operations closer to our family of customers and collaborators, provides an ideal location for the new plant.

"Utilizing equipment and technology currently in operation across our sister companies, NRP’s team is building a technically evolved and future-focused pressing plant that will be a source of pride for Nashville and its music community. We are devoted to creating a unique company culture, one that breathes life into our employees. Feeling appreciated, supported, and heard is a baseline standard within Nashville Record Pressing’s walls. We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from Tennessee and the warm welcome we’ve received from the community. We’re here to be a vital contributing member of this community, and Nashville’s favorite vinyl pressing plant."

"The largest record producer in the world, the Czech company GZ Media, has opened its third record pressing plant on the North American continent. In the Nashville Record Pressing (NRP) production plant in the American state of Tennessee, it invested fully from its own resources, amounting to more than 1.3 million USD. It wants to create 255 new jobs within two years," the CZ Media says.

"NRP is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Czech GZ Media, headquartered in the Czech Republic. The factory is equipped with brand new and best-in-class equipment and infrastructure, making it highly competitive globally.  The North American continent was very important for GZ Media already at the time when gramophone records started to come back into fashion. To this day, it is the main outlet for vinyls, the demand for which is still growing. Every fourth gramophone record currently sold in the world comes from the Czech company GZ Media. In addition to the new factory in Nashville, USA, the company also has a pressing plant Memphis Record Pressing in Memphis and Precision Record Pressing in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. Both existing factories are continuously increasing their capacity. The new Nashville Record Pressing, which plans to produce 85,000 records a day in its first year, has the same ambition.

"Through ongoing investments, the GZ Media group increases the number of records produced in the long term. "Last year we produced 56.5 million vinyls in all our factories, within two years we want to increase production to 140 million pieces per year thanks to the new American plants," adds Zdeněk Pelc, the majority owner of the company."

NRP officials said they hope the new plant — which would feature best-in-class equipment and infrastructure — would be a source of pride for Nashville and support its music community.

"Whether under its original name Southern Plastics, or the moniker United Record Pressing, LLC, this Nashville-based company has pressed nothing but vinyl since 1949. Early clients included Vee Jay Records and Motown," the Road Trippers says.

"Prior to signing to Capitol, Vee Jay released the first Beatles 7” in America. In 1962, Southern Plastics relocated to 453 Chestnut Street, which is the same location that pressed those Beatles 7”s. Southern Plastics would eventually change its name to United Record Pressing in 1971.

"Tours of United Record Pressing are available for $10 per person on Fridays at 11am. We do NOT accept cash. Due to limited space in our lobby, we ask that you not arrive more than 15 minutes before your tour’s start time."
