World’s Largest Alligator Shaped Building : world record in Christmas, Florida

Christmas, Florida, United States--Tiny town of Christmas, Florida, is home a 200-foot-long alligator-shaped building named "Swampy", which serves as the entrance to a gator farm attraction; Swampy was built as the home of Jungle Adventures founder Hermon Brooks and is big enough to contain the gift shop, ticket counter and offices of Jungle Adventures, setting the world record for being the World's Largest Alligator Shaped Building, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"At around 200-feet long, Swampy is the world’s largest alligator. The cornerstone of Florida’s Jungle Adventures (a roadside zoo) the giant reptile was built in the 1980s by the park’s founder Hermon Brooks," the Silly America reports.

"“People leaving here like they learned something and understanding their environment a little bit more so we can live with the animals not around them," said Ryan Brown with Jungle Adventures," the Spectrum News 13 reports.

"Swampy is big -- big enough to contain the gift shop, ticket counter and offices of Jungle Adventures, in the holiday season-themed town of Christmas, Florida," the Roadside America reports.

"Swampy was built in the 1980s as the home of Jungle Adventures founder Hermon Brooks. He'd planned to use Swampy's open mouth as the entrance to his attraction, which was then called Gator Jungle. But a lawsuit from nearby Gatorland, famous for its gator mouth entrance, foiled Hermon's plan. Ironically, a subsequent fire at Gatorland permanently disconnected its gator mouth from its gift shop, so now neither giant gator mouth is used as an entrance.

"Behind Swampy, the 10-acre Jungle Adventures park offers a tour of a Native Village, electric boat rides and boardwalks through the swamp, and a home for injured or thrown-away exotic pets as well as hundreds of alligators. The gift shop sells frozen alligator meat for your barbecuing pleasure, and visitors can pet a tarantula."

Testimonials from Trip Advisor

"Not much to say about this place, other than it is a building shaped like a giant Alligator. It is a fun roadside attraction worth stopping to take photos of. The Mouth of the Alligator is the entrance to the gator park, which is highly overpriced considering all of the other gator attractions we had been to in the past week in Central Florida. This makes for some great photos of a fun roadside attraction, but that is about all."

"This place is awesome! It is a small zoo with many cool animals and also has at least 150 alligators and they were everywhere! My husband and I got to hold a baby alligator, a parrot and a snake. I highly recommend this place! Give yourself at least 3 hours here. We went at about 3:30 in the afternoon and it closes at 5;30. We got to see all of the animals but I could have stayed much longer."

"This is old time Florida at it's best. The gators are in the wild, in a duckweed-filled, sulfur-water smelling, natural swamp, just like you would see them in the wild. There are other animals here as well, ranging from a Florida black bear, to a Florida panther, to more exotic animals like ring-tailed lemurs and a variety of snakes."

"This place is a cross between a jungle excursion, an alligator farm, and a zoo. They have a bit of everything, live alligator feeding, zoo animals, live shows, even a Native history lesson. We were very pleased, and our children had a wonderful time. The staff here are outstanding. They are fantastic and welcoming, and very caring for their animals. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience!"
