World's Longest Timber-Towered Suspension Bridge: world record in Boyne Mountain Resort, Michigan

BOYNE FALLS, Michigan, United States--Located at Boyne Mountain Resort, SkyBridge Michigan is situated between the peaks of McLouth and Disciples Ridge; designed by Experiential Resources (ERi), clocks in at 1,200 feet in length, with the height of the bridge's suspended walking surface sitting nearly 118 feet above the valley floor; upon completion, it will be the World's Longest Timber-Towered Suspension Bridge, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"Located at Boyne Mountain Resort, SkyBridge Michigan is situated between the peaks of McLouth and Disciples Ridge and will be accessible year-round for visitors looking to admire panoramic views of the region's seasonal beauty," The West Michigan Woman reports.

"The bridge, designed by Experiential Resources (ERi), clocks in at 1,200 feet in length, with the height of the bridge's suspended walking surface sitting nearly 118 feet above the valley floor. Anchoring the bridge on each side are two wooden timber towers (approximately 52-feet high and nearly 70-feet long), which serve as a nod to Northern Michigan's logging history. The wood itself has been locally sourced by Matelski Lumber."

The SkyBridge Michigan is expected to open next month.

"SkyBridge Michigan is easily about to become “Michigan’s second bridge,” enticing travelers to take a walk on the wild side. Panoramic valley views and extensive light displays are a guaranteed camera pleaser. Open year round, every season has a reason to take in the views from this architectural masterpiece," the boneymountain.com reports.

"This new attraction is modeled after the wildly successful Gatlinburg SkyBridge at sister property, Gatlinburg SkyLift Park in Tennessee, and is an even more sensational work-of-art with its timber-frame design, a nod to the logging heritage of northern Michigan, with lumber sourced by long-time partner in resort growth, Matelski Lumber.

"SkyBridge Michigan is being constructed between the peaks of McLouth to Disciples Ridge.  Guests will ride one of several chairlifts to the mountain’s top, then take a walk along the exhilarating 1,203-foot long and 118-foot high pedestrian bridge, and can also connect to Boyne Mountain’s extensive paved resort trail system."

"Positioned at the crest between McLouth and Disciple’s Ridge, SkyBridge Michigan is set to become the world’s longest timber-towered suspension bridge, and will offer resort guests and visitors alike an exhilarating experience," the official Press Release says.

"The walking surface will hang suspended 118-feet from the ground level and showcase panoramic views of the surrounding Boyne Valley. The bridge is expected to open in September, and will be open year-round.

"Boyne Mountain Resort has been entertaining legions of recreational guests since first opening in 1948 in Boyne Falls, Michigan. Throughout the resort’s history, a pioneering spirit has been at the core leading to many industry firsts in snowmaking and lift innovation, and an evolution towards diversification that has allowed Boyne Mountain to grow to become one of the most popular and celebrated year-round destinations in Michigan.
