World's Largest Paper Cup Sculpture: world record set in Riverside, California

Riverside, California, United States--In front of what was once the Lily-Tulip manufacturing company in Riverside, California, later Sweetheart Cup Company, sits a giant Paper Cup Sculpture; made of poured concrete, the cup stands about 68.1 feet (20.8 m) tall, setting the world record for being the World's Largest Paper Cup Sculpture, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"A huge cup promoted the Sweetheart brand paper cup, which was manufactured in the adjacent factory from 1958 to 1997. It was placed here so as to be one of the first Riverside sights visible from arriving Westbound trains," the Roadside America reports. The Cup still has a fence around it, but now you can pull up pretty close."

"Standing at 68 feet in height, the roadside icon originally highlighted the Lily Tulip Cup Company, later the Sweetheart Cup Company, which manufactured dixie cups to consumers near and far between 1958 and 1997," the Explore Southern California reports.

"Today, alas, it is merely a white edifice that rises out of a field next to a warehouse outlet. Only a few roadside sights buffs and local residents recall its history.

"...it is a great place to take a photo and reminisce on the golden age of Inland Empire manufacturing during the second half of the 20th century."

"Sweetheart Cup Company was a North American company that made paper cups, plastic cups and related products. In 2004, Sweetheart was acquired by the Solo Cup Company, which itself was acquired by Dart Container on May 4, 2012." (wikipedia)

"The stop itself lacks luster but imagine what could happen if they repainted this to be the world's largest red solo cup? Now that would be a party," the roadsidetourist.com reports.

"Branded as the World's Largest Paper Cup, it is currently painted white concrete, with a gray lip around the top. The cup was the original symbol of the Lily Tulip Cup company from 1958 to 1977. In late 1977 Lily Tulip was taken over by Sweetheart Cup Company, and the concrete cup acquired the Sweetheart logo of two horizontal stripes, a red one over a blue one," a Trip Advisor reader says.

"In 2004 Sweetheart Cup Company was merged into Solo Cup Company. Shortly thereafter the Riverside factory closed its doors for good. The Cup remained in front of the factory building and became a magnet for vandalism and graffiti. The building was eventually turned into a furniture liquidation outlet and the cup was repaired and painted white. Currently the building is empty and over the years the Cup has turned a dirty grayish white. The surrounding area around the building and the cup has become a homeless encampment area.

"f you're going to Riverside, and you like strange things... you have NO EXCUSE not to go see The World's Largest Paper Cup! Not that there is a fence, so you can't get super close. You have to just pull off the side of the road, which is easy to do."

It is surrounded by a fence so you can’t get really close to it or touch it, but there’s plenty of room for kooky photo taking. As demonstrated by me." Pic: theplainjane.com
