World's Largest Historic Milk Bottle Sculpture: world record set in Templeton, California

Templeton, California, United States--Outside the Templeton Historical Museum in Templeton, California, sits a large twelve-foot tall, 80-year-old historic milk bottle designed and built by Gregory Rossi using lath, chicken wire, and stucco, which was used to advertise the Crescent Dairy Farm located in the area; the milk bottle sculpture sets the world record for being the World's Largest Historic Milk Bottle Sculpture, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

The bottle was donated by the McNamara family, and eventually found a new home outside the Templeton Historical Museum after being restored.

"The large milk bottle has actually been around since the 1930s! Originally it was used to advertise the Crescent Dairy Farm located in the area," the weirdca.com reports.

"Vincente Rossi originally owned Crescent Dairy Farm, named after the crescent shape of the property the dairy sat on. His two sons, Gregory and Vincent Rossi inherited the dairy and farm after their father retired.

"Gregory Rossi designed and built the giant bottle sometime in the 1930s (probably 1936 to 1938) using lath, chicken wire, and stucco. The bottle is hollow and was used to advertise the dairy for decades, standing first by the old El Camino Real highway and later near Highway 101, sometime in the 1950s. An El Camino Real bell stands to the right of the bottle to commemorate that time.

"In the 1930s, as a way to advertise, Gregory had the huge milk bottle made from chicken wire, stucco and whatever else would stick together. It was built as nothing more than an advertising sign for the Rossi Brothers," the Paso Robles Press reports.

"Travelers couldn’t miss it on 101. Times change, businesses come and go, the old ways become obsolete and all the other cliche’s get in on the action. But, that ol’ bottle stood proud for a long time.

"Mr. David Bond, a fourth generation Templeton man approached Darrell Radford, the Chairman of the Templeton Museum and Jim Greer, a Board member. He asked about perhaps getting that bottle moved to the Templeton Museum, and they figured it out."

The bottle was donated by the McNamara family, and eventually found a new home outside the Templeton Historical Museum after being restored.

"The Crescent Farm 12-foot milk bottle now stands in front of the History Center in Templeton on Main Street. It’s a reminder of Templeton’s rich history in agriculture. And it reminds many old timers of seeing the milk bottle as a landmark as they traveled north and south through the northern San Luis Obispo County," the Paso Robles Press reports.
