World's Largest Handmade Candy Cane: world record set in Ontario, California

Ontario, California, United States--Family run, and owned by the same family since the beginning, Logan's Candies is famous for their home made candy canes, and have been using the same recipe since from back in the thirties; measuring about six feet in length and weighing around thirty pounds, the giant candy cane which hangs on the wall behind the counter sets the world record for being the World's Largest Handmade Candy Cane, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"Throughout the year, and especially during December, they make batch after batch of their own home made candy canes, sold right there in the shop," the Weird California reports.

"If you're crazy about candy canes, every December they do live demonstrations of the candy cane making process. Running about 45 minutes, there are often three demos a day scheduled as you get closer to Christmas. You need to come early as they are extremely well attended, with space in front of the shop's window filling up almost thirty minutes before the demo. All of the candy canes and all of the ribbon candy is made in store."

"The Logan family first opened their small candy shop in 1933 in Downtown, Ontario California, the official website says. The shop began out on Euclid Avenue next to the historic Granda Theatre and then moved to its current location on B street in 1953.

"Jerry Rowley, the shops current owner, started working seasonally at Logan’s at the young age of 12 and continued to work under 3 different owners learning the trade of candy making.

"At the age of 19, Jerry & his wife, Susi Rowley, took over the store in 1982 and have been running the shop ever since! This upcoming Christmas season will be the couple’s 40th Christmas running the shop!

"Logan’s carries over 600 different candy items, ranging from retro candy bars to gummy and sour candies. Over 200 of those candies are made in house, by hand including all our chocolates, fudges, candy canes, ribbon candies, pillow mints, peanut brittle, caramel apples & more!"

"First off, if you are going to one of the demonstrations, get their early! It fills up fast as it is just a small store, and you simply crowd the window to watch the demo, the California Through My Lens reports.

"It was full around the glass about 30 minutes before the demonstration I went to, luckily I am tall so it is pretty easy to see over people and I just hovered at the back. They had a TV that showed what they were doing mounted above the crowd the last time I was there, which made it a lot easier to see."
