World's Largest Potato Chip Kettle: Thomasville, PA, sets world record

Thomasville, Pennsylvania, United States--A large black potato chip kettle is a roadside attraction, measuring 6' x 4', mixed material, marking the home of Martin's Potato Chips company and setting the world record for being the World's Largest Potato Chip Kettle, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"Martin’s Potato Chips is located in south central Pennsylvania which is considered by many to be the snack food capital of the world, the official website says.


"From the farm kitchen of Harry and Fairy Martin, back in 1941, a unique potato chip found its way into the hearts and homes of York County. Their business soon outgrew the kitchen. The Martin’s built a small factory and expanded their distribution from delivering fresh daily to market stands, to also selling to mom and pop grocery stores.


"Harry Martin installed his first automated potato chip fryer and automatic bagging machine. Charlie Lebo was Mr. Martin’s first employee.


"n 1974 the kettle cooked potato chip was introduced. They are handmade, one batch at a time, the old fashioned way. This bag design was the first to feature our trademark kettle logo. By the 1980s, kettle cook’d potato chips were the local favorite and the sales were growing rapidly."


"Mr. Potter retired in March of 2004 after 50 years in the potato chip business. Today, elder son, Ken Jr. is President & CEO and youngest son David is Vice President of Sales and Marketing."


"In 2018 we changed our official name from Martin’s Potato Chips to Martin’s Snack’s to better reflect the broad range of snack foods that we make and distribute."

Thomasville is an unincorporated community in Jackson Township of York County, Pennsylvania, United States, west of the city of York. The community is home to Martin's Potato Chips and York Airport.

The GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for the largest copper kettle was built in Taunton, Somerset, UK for the hardware merchants Fisher and Son c. 1800, it stood 0.9m (3ft) high with a 1.8m (6ft) girth and a 90 litre (20 gal) capacity.


GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS also recognized the world record for the longest fruit snack; it measured 91.44 m (300 ft) and was prepared by Sun-Rype Products Ltd (Canada) at the Parkinson Recreation Centre, Kelowna, B.C., Canada, on 16 October 2011.
