World Record Academy's 2021 World Record City of the Year: Mandan

MANDAN, North Dakota, United States--The holder of three world records, the
City of Mandan, North Dakota, earned World Record Academy's '2021
World Record City of the Year' title, after setting three world records:
Longest Chicken Dance,
Largest Twist dance and for the
Longest YMCA Dance, according to the
WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
"The turnout was amazing. People traveled here from many states and also meet a couple from England who traveled to Mandan, ND just to be part of the festivities," stated Dennis Freisz, Mandan Parade co-chairperson.

Mandan is a city on the eastern border of Morton County and the eighth-largest city in North Dakota. Founded in 1879 on the west side of the upper Missouri River, it was designated in 1881 as the county seat of Morton County.The U.S. Census Bureau estimated the 2020 population at 22,857. Across the Missouri River from Bismarck, Mandan is a core city of the Bismarck-Mandan Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Nick Ressler of Mandan, one of the event organizers, stated that the line was 1.627 miles long as measured on Google maps.
There were over 130 groups participating in the
Mandan parade, and with so many people there to watch, a world record have been set for the
world's longest chicken dance, which stretched for the length of the parade route.
The
Longest Chicken Dance in The World was an overwhelming success, stated
Marlo Anderson, Mandan Parade co-chairperson.
" Everyone was amazed at the turnout. We had people who traveled from Washington, Missourri, Kansas, Utah, Colorado and other states just to be involved in the event."
"A core group of people worked an making the event possible. Dennis Friesz, Lisa Smestad, Del Wetch, Tara Wangler, Don Taghan, Ann Jenks, Alice Anderson and many other volunteers were involved.

Parade co-chairs
Dennis Friesz and
Marlo Anderson stated: "It is history. It certainly is. We had the chicken dance last year. This year the twist. Next year, who knows. Maybe a combination, gymnastics, back-flips and all that stuff."
"The Twist" is the most popular song in Billboard history, with Chubby Checker taking it to number one in 1960 and again in 1962.
The resulting dance craze made "The Twist" one of the most recognized dances in the world. The world record attempt was a celebration of the 50 year anniversary of "The Twist".

The world's longest YMCA Dance was part of the annual Independence Day celebration in Mandan, ND.
Other events included a 5k run, a classic car parade, art in the park, the region's largest parade and the longest running Rodeo in the USA dating back to 1879.
"Other than some technical issues caused by the early morning wind storm, the event was an overwhelming success," stated
Marlo Anderson, Mandan Parade co-chairperson.
