World’s Largest Pizza Party, world record in New Haven, Connecticut

New Haven, Connecticut, United States--The city of New Haven threw a giant pizza party with 4,525 partygoers, who had gathered for the city’s 10th annual Grand Prix cycling race; this event sets the new world record for the World’s Largest Pizza Party, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"Led by Colin Caplan of Taste of New Haven, the city threw the world’s largest pizza party on Friday, September 12, and that’s official, according to none other than Guinness World Records. The event broke the record previously set on January 21, 2023, at the University of Tulsa," the PMQ Pizza says.
"New Haven eclipsed that milestone with 4,525 partygoers, who had gathered for the city’s 10th annual Grand Prix cycling race and A-1 Toyota Apizza Feast. And once again a Guinness World Records adjudicator was present to oversee the proceedings and enforce strict rules—every person in attendance had to eat two slices apiece in the allotted 15-minute period."

"At the Newark event, attendees dined on slices of pizza provided by Papa John's franchisee Disrupt Foods, which is co-owned by former Philadelphia Eagles star Malcom Jenkins," the CT Insider says.
"Other sponsors included the City of Newark and the New Jersey Devils Youth Foundation, said Amanda Gonzalez, the director of development at the Boys & Girls Club. Two of the teenagers emceed the event, while others performed their own music and read slam poetry."

"The largest pizza party is 4,525 people, and was achieved by Taste of New Haven (USA) in New Haven, Connecticut, USA on 12 September 2025," the
Guinness World Records says.
"The city of New Haven celebrated its role as the 'Pizza Capital of the United States" by attempting the record for the Largest Pizza Party. This event was also a fundraiser for the Connecticut Cycling Advancement Program who run the New Haven Grand Prix."

"The pizza party took place on the New Haven Green, amid the city’s annual Apizza Feast, alongside around 70 vendors and food trucks. As event participants munched on pizza, bikers competing in the New Haven Grand Prix whizzed around downtown. Prominent DJ Funk Flex performed on the Green later that evening," the Yale Daily News says.
"Eyzaguirre emphasized the pizza party’s popularity, estimating that between 10,000 and 15,000 people, including those who participated in the record-breaking pizza party, attended the events on the Green that evening — an all-time record.
"Though Eyzaguirre described the event as a “relatively small investment,” he said carrying out the event required extensive planning. He credited the parks, police and fire departments with ensuring safety on the Green, adding that the economic development and mayor’s office handled marketing and public outreach."

"A Connecticut city dished out more than 9,000 slices of savory pie to break the Guinness World Record for the largest pizza party. The Taste of New Haven, which organizes multiple local events and tours, held the record attempt Friday at the New Haven Green," the UPI reports.
"Each participant was served two slices of pizza, and was required by Guinness World Records rules to finish them in a set amount of time.
"The party ended up with an official total of 4,525 participants, breaking the record of 3,357 that was set by the Pizza World Champions in Tulsa, Okla., in 2023."

"The goal was to get at least 5,000 people to eat at least two slices during that three-hour window while being observed to ensure proper counting, documentation and authentication, according to Guinness World Records’ rules," the WTNH.com says.
"New Haven’s record-breaking pizza party took place on the New Haven Green between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., while the New Haven Grand Prix race held cycling races surrounding the Green that began at 4 p.m.
“The atmosphere around here is just crazy,” Bradford said. “I don’t think I realized how much was going on outside of the pizza party. This area is popping as it is, to know that there is a bike race going on, it’s really exciting. I’m happy to be here.”
"The self-proclaimed pizza capital of the United States succeeded in its longstanding goal Friday — to break the most-recent pizza party world record of 3,357 diners. That's been held by Tulsa, Oklahoma for just the last year and a half. Since New Haven's party was announced, the city's plan was to lap the competition," the Connecticut Public Radio says.
"Ultimately, New Haven clinched by more than a thousand additional pizza partygoers: 4,525 came out to the New Haven Green, as cyclists participating in the annual New Haven Grand Prix whizzed by.
"The crowd was filled with some of the most dedicated pizza fans, who dressed up for the occasion: a giant pizza slice costume, lots of local apizza shop merch from Frank Pepe and Sally’s and a green, white and red tee."
