"A group of farmers from Dobrogea resorted to a desperate measure to draw public attention to the serious problem they are facing. They used a tractor to write the message "WE WANT WATER" in a field," the PRO TV reported.

"According to Ziare.com, the initiative comes from the Civic Initiative Group of Dobrogea Farmers, following this year's drought, which almost completely destroyed some crops in the southeastern part of the country.

""We are sending a desperate signal to the authorities to find solutions, together with farmers, for the drought that is particularly affecting the Dobrogea region," say farmer representatives, according to the cited source."

"Farmers in the Dobrogea region have plowed a message into a barren field addressed to the authorities: "We want water!" They aim to draw the authorities' attention to the fact that Dobrogea is suffering from drought.

"The farmers hope the Ministry of Agriculture will rehabilitate the region's irrigation system and declare Constanța County a disaster area, thereby allowing them to defer loan repayments to banks," the DIGI 24 reports.

"The Bărăgan Plain is a steppe plain in south-eastern Romania. It makes up much of the eastern part of the Wallachian Plain. The region is known for its black soil and a rich humus, and is mostly a cereal-growing area.

"It is bounded on the south and east by the Danube, and in the North by the Buzău and Călmățui rivers, both tributaries of the Danube. The western limit is a line joining the cities of Buzău, Urziceni, Budești, and Oltenița. The plain practically covers Ialomița and Călărași counties, extending into the southern portion of Buzău and Brăila counties."  (
