Cologne, Germany--Gamescom, a trade fair for video games held annually at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany, have had 370,000 visitors and 1,037 exhibitors from 56 countries attending the event, setting the world record for the World's Largest Gaming Event, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"The "gamescom - Opening Night Live" (ONL) show takes place every year on the evening before the opening. The show presents the latest trailers and announcements from the international games industry and is hosted by Geoff Keighley. Alongside the public areas, there is also a closed area for professional visitors, such as publishers, journalists and developers.

A new take on a roguelike (a subgenre of role-playing video games characterised by procedurally generated levels, turn-based gameplay, grid-based movement, and permadeath) where you have to dodge death while making sure you get your adventurous chores and shopping done."

Meanwhile, thousands of gaming fans gathered at the exhibition center in Cologne, where the event is taking place, from 1 p.m. local time," the Global Times reports.

"Jointly organized by the Cologne Exhibition Center (Koelnmesse) and the German Games Industry Association, gamescom 2024 has attracted more than 1,400 exhibitors from 64 countries and regions, up 15 percent compared to 2023. The number of country pavilions has also hit a new record high of 48, up from 37 in 2023.

"Gamescom is widely considered one of the three most important gaming events in the world, together with the Electronic Entertainment Expo in the United States and the Tokyo Game Show."

"Gamescom, the world's largest computer games trade fair according to the organisers, has opened in Cologne and more than 1,400 participants from 64 countries are showcasing new games and technology," the EuroNews reports.

"After the pandemic boom in sales, the industry is now feeling the pinch as consumers curb spending. But it's far from game over - senior executives are expecting trade to pick up again soon.

"During the coronavirus pandemic in particular, things reallt went up, in some cases by 30 percent, and that's why there's now a bit of normalisation, especially in the investment situation. Interest rates are rising. This is putting pressure on companies worldwide," explains Felix Falk, the managing director of Game, The German Games Industry Association."
