Doha, Qatar--The giant 3D construction printer installed at a school construction site in Doha, measuring 50m x 30m x 15m (the size of a Boeing 737 hangar), manufactured by COBOD International and operated by UCC Holding, sets the new world record for being the World’s Largest 3D Construction Printer, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"The largest 3D construction printer in the world has been installed at a school construction site in Doha. The first of the two BODXL printers, measuring 50m x 30m x 15m (the size of a Boeing 737 hangar), manufactured by COBOD International and operated by UCC Holding, was revealed during a special VIP event recently," The Peninsula Qatar reports.

The successful installation of the printer, which is over four times larger than the next largest 3D construction printer ever developed, occurs less than 10 months after UCC Holding and Denmark’s COBOD, the foremost manufacturer of concrete 3D printers globally, signed a contract on September 18, 2024 to provide the world’s largest third-generation 3D printers intended for school construction in Qatar."

"As stated in a LinkedIn post by UCC Holding, the printer will be utilised in the construction of two public schools in Doha, each covering 20,000 sqm, resulting in a total of 40,000 sqm, thus establishing this as the largest 3D printed construction project in the world to date.

"With its vast scale, the BODXL can print a building footprint of 1,500 square metres and structures reaching up to five floors, culminating in a total built-up area of 7,500 square meters,"

"In a global first for large-scale digital construction, UCC Holding, in collaboration with Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal), has officially begun the printing phase of the world’s largest 3D-printed building project," the Golf Business reports.

"The project involves the construction of 14 new public schools, including two to be built entirely using 3D printing technology. Each of the 3D-printed schools will span 20,000 square meters—making a combined 40,000 square meters—40 times larger than any previously completed 3D-printed building worldwide.

"Designed as two-storey buildings on plots measuring 100 by 100 meters, the schools represent a landmark in educational architecture and scalable, future-ready infrastructure in the region."

"3D printing offers significant environmental, social, and economic advantages over traditional construction. The process reduces raw material waste, minimizes concrete use, and cuts carbon emissions. On-site printing also reduces transportation needs and supply chain dependency, while dramatically speeding up project timelines," the Golf Business reports.

"UCC Holding has formed a dedicated team of architects, civil engineers, material scientists, and printer technicians to lead the operation.

"Over the past eight months, the team conducted more than 100 full-scale test prints using a BOD2 printer at a trial site in Doha. These trials helped develop optimized concrete mixes suited to Qatar’s climate and refine a custom nozzle for high-precision printing."

"Danish construction 3D printer manufacturer COBOD customized two of its large BODXL machines to measure 50 meters long, 30 meters wide, and 15 meters high, making them the largest construction printers in the world, according to COBOD," the All3DP says.

"A construction team of architects, civil engineers, material scientists, and printer technicians have spend the past eight months training on the massive 3D printer making more than 100 full-scale test prints at a trial site in Doha, the capital city of Qatar.

"Architecturally, the schools are inspired by the natural desert formations of Qatar, with curved, flowing walls resembling sand dunes, says COBOD. Two same-size schools are expected to be completed by the end of 2025."

"COBOD is a Danish company founded in 2017 that specializes in 3D construction printing technology. They design and manufacture 3D printers, with their flagship product, the BOD2, being the world's most widely used 3D construction printer," COBOD's official website says.

"COBOD's printers are used for a variety of applications, including residential, commercial, industrial buildings, and even wind turbine bases

"In a pioneering leap for construction technology, Qatar has unveiled the world's largest 3D construction printer at a Doha school site, setting new standards for efficiency, sustainability, and innovation in the building industry," the Rude Baguette says.

"The BODXL printer is a marvel of engineering, measuring approximately 164 feet in length, 98 feet in width, and 49 feet in height. These dimensions make it more than four times larger than any other 3D construction printer previously built.

"Capable of printing a building footprint of 16,145 square feet, the BODXL can create structures up to five floors tall, totaling an impressive 80,729 square feet of built-up area. This immense scale allows for unprecedented speed and efficiency in construction, significantly reducing the time and resources required to complete large projects."
