Largest bridge made of recycled plastic bottles, world record in Timisoara, Romania
TIMISOARA, Romania--Using 104402 recycled plastic bottles, volunteers from Eco Stuff Romania have build a giant bridge made of recycled plastic bottles; the bridge connected the two banks of Bega River, which crosses the Romanian town of Timisoara, and sets the new world record for the Largest Bridge Made Of Recycled Plastic Bottles, according the World Record Academy.

The bridge, which was located on the Bega Canal, behind the Metropolitan Cathedral, was made up of 104,502 PETs of all sizes that have been donated by Timisoara over several weeks.
"They were put into batteries made of wire fence, and these batteries actually formed the bridge.
"On the top of the World's Largest Bridge Made Of Recycled Plastic Bottles there were planks that the passers-by could trample.
"The bridge had a round shape, stairs and banisters, and the night was illuminated. On the edges in several bottles can be seen colorful water for decoration, the Mediafax news agency reports.
"It is a new premiere for our city, Timisoara, and we hope to enter with it in the Book of World Records , because this bridge is made with 104,502 plastic bottles, and it has worked hard and has become a very interesting piece of work.
"We wanted to give a signal to the citizens to collect these PETs and to hand them over to the recyclers, because it is a pity to pollute our waters, "said the Mayor of Timisoara.
"On the
World's Largest Bridge Made Of Recycled Plastic Bottles were organized concerts and shows, daily, for two weeks, after 21.30, when the lights on the bridge were lit. The Banat Philharmonic has concerts, a ballet show and other concerts have taken place.
"The 104,502 PETs used to build the World's Largest Bridge Made Of Recycled Plastic Bottles over Bega river were finally sent to Retim, the sanitation service in Timişoara for recycling.
PET = Polyethylene terephthalate, a thermoplastic polymer resin of the polyester family, used in beverage, food and other liquid containers.
By building the World's Largest Bridge Made Of Recycled Plastic Bottles in Timisoara, volunteers from Timisoara want to draw attention to the enormous amount of plastic packaging that pollutes the waters in Romania and around the world.
